I disagree completely that he "wasn't popular". We were both on the board at the time and he was a gold mine of experiences. I know others on the board were very appreciative of his input. He may not have been as tactful as he could have been, but sometimes you need that if you are going to improve your processes.
I still have the videos of John and Hawley (transfered to DVD) as they explained how the frame of 0579 could be fixed and they are not only a good technical explanation, but a lot of good understanding of what they had to deal with in the day.
In this case deck screws would not be good to use and as the car flexes (like wood cars should) the screws might break because they can't take the stress. I don't think we did that again.
