I have fired steam engines with all 3 types of fuel. Each fuel type takes different skill sets by themselves. You then need to take into account the different steaming habits of each different locomotive you are on. That changes the equation once again. No two locomotives fire the same even if they are of the same type and same fuel type.
Let me leave it by saying that all 3 fuel types take practice and then each locomotive you are firing takes practice all over again.
And that is all before you take into account the engineer you have in the right hand seat box......
