Two threads going on this topic....only time to post in one.
First of all, beautiful photos. Clearly shot by one or more pros.
Second, you'd better bet that train was a special deal for the Prince and his wife. The steam engines normally never go as far as Carcross. Heck the steamers normally go no further than Fraser. The Carcross run is a diesel-only trip. This train was clearly a special.
Third, this must have been a big deal in Carcross. I have driven through there and stopped briefly to see the burned-out steamboat. Carcross is not a big town, and it's not particularly well-known outside of the local area, other than being the northern terminus of the WP&YR's usable track. Having the royals come to town is probably the biggest event there in decades.
