There is a story I heard or read about concerning a little boo boo on a Canadian Pacific locomotive with a screw type power reverse. The type they had could be operated manually by turning the wheel, but had a small brass lever adjacent to the wheel that used air to spin the screw one way or the other. It seems this engineer had made himself comfortable once up to track speed with one leg stretched out and propped up on the reverser wheel. He momentarily nodded off and his leg hit the air assist. This quickly spun the wheel all the way to what we would think of as "in the corner". Before he had time to react the draft was so great that it sucked the arch brick up off of the arch tubes resulting in a pile of arch brick parts covering the top of the fire. I wonder if he fessed up, or the story came out years later?
