I believe these were Baldwin "Ragonet" reverse gears. One of the gentlemen with the group restoring Alaska Railroad Eng. 557 was kind enough to share numerous drawings they had on these type of power reverse units with me as SVRy 19 and 20 have Baldwin Ragonet power reverse gears that were installed while they were on the White Pass. There were several similar designs that appear to use the same control valve on top of the cylinder. Some of the units have an external cross head while others like the one on 19 and 20 have no cross head, but rather have the piston shaft extending out both end caps to deal with the up-down thrust that the end toward the valve gear would get when it is moved in some applications. It looks like the one on 473 has neither a cross head, nor the piston shaft out the back end. Looks like as it was applied to 473, there would be little if any up down thrust to account for. The attached drawing may be the correct one.
