That is definitely Ernie, as the shot was taken with his camera and is in series with several other slides taken on 10/17/70 that I scanned for him a few years ago. Ernie wrote the names of his companions (one of whom I cropped off in the above post) on the frame of the slide, but I didn't make note of them. See the second photo on [
ngdiscussion.net] for the uncropped version, which shows two other volunteers in addition to Ernie. IIRC, Sid McKinney was running #483 both days, Rich Braden (employee2) was his fireman and Eddie Martinez was the conductor. That was well over 40 years ago, so my memories are not real sharp, but I do remember working as a brakeman on the previous day's eastbound train, and driving a volunteer's Toyota 4WD - possibly Sam's - from Antonito to Chama on the 17th to that he could help out with the train.
