My guess is he took an ATV or walked the last part. In 1993 when we did the Rotary, we were on snowmobiles and went down the canyon via Apache Canyon Road. As I recall we made it pretty far, but had to cross a stream which was downgrade and upgrade, plus a mix of snow and water. It was a tough stretch on the snowmoble(And us). Anyway we could only get so far but my last video shows a piece of the bridge in the shot. A couple of others continued on a bit further and may have gotten a little better view, but this was late in the afternoon and the sun was somewhat behind the mountains. In 2014 we drove down there a ways, and there is now a gate before you get to one of those cabins. We ran into the guy who owned it, and he said we could go through if we wanted to, but had to close it. This was probably how we went in 1993. As it turned out we did not venture down there, as it seemed there was another gate or the road ran out. But I suspect if one were to drive/walk, that would be the preferred route assuming you could get through the gate/s. I just felt it wasn't worth all the effort for the one shot. Now in the fall it might be really nice assuming you get the train there the right time as Kevin suggested.
