I always wondered about the change in gauge for the Germans going into Russia during "The Great patriotic War," and always wondered why they didn't re-gauge everything. In the end, it couldn't have been tougher than changing everything back and forth for troop/supply trains going to and from the nightmare of the Eastern front...
