When I traveled from Bucharest to Chisinau, they lifted the entire train up on jacks at the border and changed all of the trucks out. We were required to stay on the train while it was up on jacks and the customs men traveled through the train checking passports.
My thought? The UP liability lawyers would have had a heart attack having a train full of passengers up on jacks. If it was the US, there would be some macho idiot who would want to get off the train and fall off and get injured.
We were lowered back down on the 5' gauge trucks and after a small thump of the bolsters settling into the truck bolster bowls, we were on our way.
In Romania it was high speed electric, in Moldova, Diesel at about 25-30 mph....
