The car was built with a flat roof and the cupola without the short ventilating clerestory. It is thought that when the car was fitted up as a relief RPO the short clerestory was added. The car body has typical RPO mail slots on each side.
It is the same length, etc. as the #2 which received a full clerestory over the passenger compartment and other improvements for use as an officer's car. And the V&T built combine #7 was the same length.
The original trucks were passenger car trucks purchased from Barney & Smith which built the passenger cars for the C&C.
