After living in Santa Fe for 20 years and running to Chama anytime I needed to measure the slightest thing and working up there sometimes 8 or ten times a summer, South Dakota sure feels like a long way from Narrow gauge country. I do get to walk the Black Hills narrow gauge lines around Deadwood which is only 30 minutes from the house. I also get a 2-6-6-2 crossing my drive way 1/2 a dozen times a day until moving just recently. But those rails sure seem like they are at least ten feet between! Work takes me to some train rich environments like the rotary snow plows in Glendive, MT. But it isn't the same.
