My particular issue is not backup of the photos, which I have multiple backups, but the more tedious task of adding caption info to the photo files. As Steve points out, it is actually easy to do, but once you are a couple of thousand pix behind like I am, it becomes a monumental task. A related issue is an effective indexing system. At least in my case I did conjure up a reasonably effective indexing system that does allow me to (usually) find the pix I am looking for on my hard drive. Back in the days of film I only had to worry about the relatively small number of images that I scanned. Now shooting digital my collection is ballooning and putting much more pressure on backup, indexing, and captioning.
