A friend in Australia says:
That photo has appeared in both editions of Rails Through the Bush, and shows the construction of one of the early mills of C & E. Millar in the forests east of Waigerup (Yarloop). The loco is Baldwin No.7111/1884 (ex Melbourne Harbour Trust No.2). Clear images of this photo show the number ‘2’ clearly on the front smokebox plate, while the chimney of the stationary boiler has ‘C & E MILLAR’ painted on. Having been into the burnt-out Yarloop forest in recent weeks, the scene looks a lot like Hoffman No.1 mill, but could also be Waterous mill?
The little Baldwin teakettle still exists and is on display inear Perth in Western Australia. [
