I've heard of this tender at the "commune" or whatever it is. Does it still have the frame and trucks, or is it just the tank. A tender without the hardware is pretty useless.
To get this somewhat straight, The 491 got the 496's tender when the 96 was scrapped, 491's tender is now gone. The 494 lost its tender to the 497 or 498 after the wreck at Los Pinos in 1960. The 490 supplied the other tender (as it was being cannabolized and scrapped in the early 60's)and both the 497 and the 498's tender were scrapped. So now a total of 3 missing tenders, of which one is at the "commune". The 494 got the 491's (496) tender after the sale to the states in 1970. The 491 was donated by the D&RGW to the Colorado Historical Society(?) and took the 499's tender and is on display in Golden. The 498, 493, and 499 were trucked to Durango, the 499 was tenderless. With the swap of 499/486 the 498's tneder was taken to Canon City with the 499 and now the 498 is without its tender. Is the 491's original tender the tender at the "commune",or is it the 497's or 498's, and does anyone know where this place is and what condtion the tender is in?
