In the videos you can hear the diesels a little bit, Every once in a while you';d hear on the radio, "give me another (notch)".

But for the most part you didn't hear them from track side. Even going down the 2.2% the train provided some of the braking, and there was brake shoe smell to prove it (as well as smoke from the FEC car as it protested being on a mountain grade!).
