Just an example, the Pennsylvania Class Battleships, including the USS Arizona, were built at the Brooklyn Navy Yards in the mid 1910's, after changing hands several times, the Yards were bought out Seatrain, and somehow, the original plans were purchased by Lockheed as part of a contract to maintain the Navy's ships.
Flash forward to the early 2000's, when flight simulators were all the rage, and a FS was released without any Navy ships. All of the ships were British, including the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Lockheed, which apparently owned the design, threatened to sue if the software designer used images of actual historic US Navy ships.
For another example, see Mikes Train House v. Union Pacific Railroad Company.
