It would be interesting to learn where and on what railroad the wreck site was was located. I have examples of your smaller journal box cover (with top loop broken-off). Mine are lettered for "UN N.G.No.1" (Utah Northern Narrow Gauge casting No.1), found on the Sumpter Valley Ry. grade at Alder Springs and another lettered "C.C. N.G. No. 1" (Colorado Central ). They are identical except for the cast-on lettering. I suspect that they were cast by the Union Pacific and there may be other examples like this lettered for the DSP&P, KP and other lines associasted with the UP or under the UP's influence.
