I'll make a WAG.
Somewhere near MP 326. [Curecanti MP 320.85, Crystal MP 327.52]
Basis: I got out my copies of USGS 7.5' topos Curecanti and Cimmaron(both 1956, contour int. 40'), the photocopys of them I make notes on, and my magnifying glass. East of MP 325 the road on the grade seldom appears to be more than one contour line above the river for any great distance whilst nearing Crystal it is always at least one contour (40') higher and appears to be (hard to be sure) nearer to two lines (80'). I don't see any place where the river crosses two lines in quick succession, which would indicate a drop of "nearly 100'", but the canyon seems to tighten up considerably near MP 326. IE: Contour lines are nearer together.
Not sure if that is any help.
I also draw your attention to the picture on "Trails Among the Columbine, 1989" page 50 which shows what is described as an 1887 section house near MP 327, photo dated 5/6/40, with the track quite near the river. However I suspect that the caption may be in error as the only structures the map shows between Curecanti and Crystal are two buildings at about MP 323, about 1/4 to 1/3 mile east of Myers Gulch. If anyone has access to a D&RG(W) listing of structures which shows the old section house, it might clear this up a bit. Nothing in the 1923 Roster or the ICC abandonment report for the Sapinero-Cedar Creek segment(1948), I've checked both.
FWIW,
