Older USGS topo maps don't seem to use the symbol for rapids much.[1] I'm not quite sure when that symbol became standard but the channel from Sapinero to Crystal was nearly non-stop rapids. Check out photos along the line or go to Colorado and walk the trail to, and if the res. is low, past the boat tour place and you'll see several. Of course you'll also seethe depressing point where the river drowns.
Also, to whoever it was who was thinking of modeling the canyon, I highly reccomend that you check out Machines of Iron's "Gunnison" dvd. This dvd has numerous shots of the canyon, with and without trains. One problem the shots are from several different trips and are not always in order! Oh, and there are a bunch of rapids to be seen in 'em.
