The post above about saving discarded pieces with some kind of identifying marks got me to thinking.
You know, the back of a tender that said "488" for example, or the side that says "Rio Grande" would probably fetch something on E-Bay.
I'm serious.
So, "the powers that be" ought to be thinking of such when a part of a locomotive or tender like that becomes available.
Save the discarded part, clean it up, post it on e-bay and then put the money in the Flowers fund.
Shoot, I have a spike and tie plate that a friend found alongside the Silverton Northern that was part of a junk pile that had been bulldozed to the side the ROW who-knows-when.
He happily loaded his trunk up with what he could find.
Imagine the frenzy on e-bay if, say, the back of the tender of one of our friends were auctioned there.
