223 has been being restored for a long time. I don't know what the plans are for her once she is operable. Since the golden spike completing the transcontinental railroad was on a standard gauge route, I don't think 223 would be used for the 150th anniversary (which will be May 10, 2019). That being said, the Joshua Bernhard said the goal is to have her running by that date, so it may have something to do with it. See [ngdiscussion.net]
