I drove the RR grade a few years ago. The tight curves
and 7.5% grade the Uintah managed or struggled with
are a true statement about trying to make profit.

In later operations the mine used a water slurry pipe to
deliver the Gil to the processing plant at 'Gilsonite, CO'
and modern hydraulic mining replaced picks.

The plant is still there behind a high fence and looks a
little rusty. Still running in 1970 according to H.Bender
in his book and owned by a large oil company at the
end.
