My brother and I hiked to East Mancos Tank in 1995. We started on Grady Mesa and followed the grade down to the tank. The tank was remarkably well preserved at the time. Someone had reroofed it with asphalt tar paper. I took about a dozen photos and can scan them if there is an interest. The two car bodies stood to the east of the grade, across from the tank. They were totally overgrown by wild roses.
Yes, indeed, it is on private property and you cross the fence at your peril. We, too, barely escaped the incoming "daisy cutters".
Seriously, there was a thread on this board (I think) about two years ago. There was an effort by the owners (Yoder Ranch) to have the tank area carved out and acquired by BLM (or some other Federal entity). I don't know if anything came of that effort.
