Yet another "drone" crash in Washington, DC

"Drones" are not the problem here. The real problem is that there are currently no certification requirements for the people who operate them. Lacking any certification, some operators are unlikely to be aware of issues such as airspace classes where it is illegal to fly these machines, such as the Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) that currently surrounds the DCA VOR/DME (located at Reagan National Airport). Even certified pilots are not allowed to fly VFR within 60 miles of the DCA VOR unless they have taken a special training course on the rules affecting the DCA SFRA.

Flying anything is serious business. "Drones" are not toys. Eventually, someone is going to make a big mistake and people are going to get hurt.
