In addition to adding another class to the "museum," it seems to me the C&TS is far more likely to find the money to do a more or less routine 1472 day overhaul of the 478, than to find the money to resurrect 483 from the dead. Assuming all this happens, it will be interesting how many C&TS passenger cars the 478 can haul up the hill. The C&TS has prolonged seasonal periods of relatively low ridership and it would not surprise me if a plan can evolve that would allow the 478 to be in the regular rotation for weeks at a time, perhaps with one less car on the train. Long term if the C&TS needs another "big" engine the obvious strategy is to figure out how to deal with the older boiler and return one of the K-37's to service.
