The last train in Aug, 68 was supposed to be double headed with 498 and 497, but Andy Payne laid off to take pictures (he said he had to visit his mother), so 498 made a turn to Gato the first day and ran all the way through to Chama the next day. Some of the empties that were set out in Gato, were left and never made it to Chama.
Also, in April '68 498 made a run to Gato from Durango with cars from the Durango Yard that needed to be moved because they were in the way of the new reverse loop trackage being built. This was on the same day 476 and 478 made a well documented test run from Alamosa to Lava and return.
