my brain is getting a bit fuzzy here, but I recall the very first project I ever did in Chama (May 1981) was repacking all 8 driving boxes of newly restored (and as of when I started - yet to be steamed up) 489. I spent several days under her staring at driver axles marked "SAL 6-48 481"
or something like that.
I'll have to find a pic of 489 in wet paint somewhere.
