I have been posting here for about 2 yrs and have not participated in "pissing contests" and will not start now. Those who have ever read anything I post will agree that I don't find others misfortunes "fun." I visit this site to learn, and hopefully share some of my knowledge of the Narrow Gauge to all those who post and read this site. I found it interesting that in the 60's two badly damaged "Mikes" were put back in service so close to the end. They could have easily been replaced at lesser cost by having two locomotives that were on the dead line in Alamosa overhauled and returned to service. Thank you Mike Trent for pointing out why they were restored. And I think this is when the 497 got the tender from the 490 which she still has today.
