Pioche is a wonderfully historic place. Not only is the tram in place, as are many of the historic buildings, but the place was crisscrossed with narrow gauge railroad.
If anyone wants to see some beautiful mountain country, take the road that heads west to Eagle Valley, and then follow it on to Stone Cabin. If you continue on the road it traverses some incredibly gorgeous mountain scenery. Be sure you have fuel because if you continue the road goes many miles into wild country not cobbled up with houses, or population. It is what I love about Nevada!
Also, the Pioche & Bullionville NG railroad ran from Pioche down through Condor Canyon to Meadow Valley. The canyon is marvelous. That line was eventually standard gauged and ran until about 1970 down to Caliente, Nevada. Much of the roadbed is still visible as are many bridges that only need to have rails laid down again. Just dreaming of course.
