I have been watching this discussion and while I don't have a dog in the fight, I can see both sides. I visited the CRRM for the first time since '95 (and I was only 7 then) back on March 31st (a Sunday morning) and was pleased with the experience. I certainly didn't know you could walk past the yellow ropes and therefore all of my exploring was inside that area. It would of have been helpful if the gentleman of the desk told me I could explore past them. I also didn't know if I could explore around the turn table. This area had some yellow rope and some holes. I tested the waters around the turn table for a good while before getting the courage up to go see the Rico. There were any volunteers around to ask besides those inside the roundhouse and knowing my luck one would appear right when I was across the rope lol. I think fixing or letting guests know about the yellow rope and how to get to the other side of the turntable area would solve any complaints I had about the visit.
The book store inside, I thought, was decent though I can't compare it to what it used to be. Found the last Dorman book (the chili line one) that I didn't have at a decent price so grabbed it. I think Caboose Hobbies had a better selection though.
PS: I also regret the library wasn't open on Sunday as I had no other choice of time to visit.
