Scroll to the bottom of the Walker Art Studio photo (they specialized in photographic post cards) and there is the remains of a bent sticking out, and that one may still be there today. It supported a pretty adventuresome spur that ran to the upper level of the Iowa-Tiger tram house. Other fragments of this elevated spur exist today. The spur in this photo had served the Iowa-Tiger tram/transfer station just past the bottom of the picture. Much of the road bed through this section of the Animas River was supported on massive log structures filled with rock that still support the road today. The log structures have served well and are still in good condition.
Construction on the Mayflower Mill started in 1929. It was never served by the SN. And with additions it is now open to the public for tours--all the milling equipment is still in place right on down to the girlie calendars in some of the offices.
