it's amazing how the mountain has pretty much reclaimed the grade. Back in the 90s I remember driving around the loop on the highway and looking up towards the grade and seeing some of the old ties sticking out of the mountain side. I can't think of another railroad that would match the scenic beauty of this route.

thanks for sharing these pics. I am sure it was not an easy hike at that altitude.
