Right On, Kevin -
As noted above, JBWX also recommends taking maximum advantage of the afternoon light,
and I totally agree with both of you.
IMHO, the departure from Antonito should be at Noon or even 12:30 pm, NOT at 10:30 am.
The ONLY run-by with good light in late morning will be Gravity Hill. For example, the approach to Ferguson's (aka Hangman's) trestle faces southwest, and the trestle itself very close to due south, so the light there will still be on the wrong side of the train around 11:00 - 11:15, even after everyone has gotten off and the train has backed far enough for good video. The situation at Lava Tank is similar - the best shots are with some light on the west side of the tank as the train passes, and that won't happen until well after 1:00 p.m. The west portal of Mud Tunnel, and Phantom Curve, won't get good light until even later, and the optimum light at the west portal of Rock Tunnel and at the cliff near m.p. 317.35 is during the warm, late afternoon "Golden Hour" that professional photographers and Hollywood film-makers love so much.
