The Huckleberry RR & Michigan Narrow Gauge

March 06, 2003 06:49PM
The Huckleberry RR is a steam tourist railroad owned by Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission. It was Genesee County's Bicentennial Project and opened on July 4, 1976. Nearly 4 miles of a former Pere Marquette/C&O branch was converted to 3 foot gauge with a reverse loop added at each end. It is not really a secret; if you do a search on this website you will find 60 items with reference to it in the last 2 years.
Michigan actually had a fair amount of narrow gauge. The line from Port Huron to Saginaw was originally 3' gauge, as were a number of other lines, both common carrier and logging.
