Years ago I too heard that Kyle liked the railroad. The other operations made money and the C&TS did not -- but it all evened out. The profits offset the loses -- or was that the loses offset the profits.

After he died the management team needed every operation to make money. So they gave up the C&TS.
After the Kyle family sold the combined company to others the new owners made changes which included giving up the C&TS. (**)

P.S. When you think of it, Kyle Railways operated several tourist operations while he was alive.
