John, I don't have that video, so I can't help much. Most of us wore "shades" of some sort, in my case photo gray specs. Russ was always way cool in his Ray Bans.
Track 8 is a montage of stuff that Miller digitally combined into one cut. He loved to do this sort of thing - adding engines that didn't exist when the recording was made. Track 9 has 488 working midtrain - in the middle of a passenger train. He digitally added that in the studio. The whistle echos are real, no need to fake or enhance that effect.
Miller did some recordings of the OY in 1993 that were pretty cool. I managed to con him out of a cassette copy of it. I wonder what will happen to his stuff now that he's gone.
