The 1218 only operated for 5 years (1987-1991). I shot the first break-in run and the return to Roanoke, and first runs, but never got it on DVD.
Sadly it was in the process of rebuilding at Birmingham when the pulled the plug, and the flues were there, but never put it, then being sold at Auction to UP I believe later on. Would have been nice if they had sent it back to the museum with the new flues at least. On the flip side the boys did a great job preserving the inside and out of 611 after its last run spending a week or two in Roanoke prepping the engine.
So don't feel bad missing the 1218, as the window was all that long.
