Grant,

John Smith, the president of the railroad, gave a nice talk at the Mountain States meeting on Friday evening and laid out his plans for the future. He already has crews working on reopening the washed out line between Cass and Durbin. The Buffalo Creek & Gauley 2-8-0 #4 was due to arrive on Wednesday. It will be used on the water level Cass to Durbin segment. He also plans to get all the 50+ year old cars waivered, so they can be used in photo charters. At present, there are only a couple of useable log cars, but he intends to fix that. A line of 40' box cars is in the yard, being used for storage, but clearly could be used for a freight on the Cass to Durbin section.

2017 will probably be the year that all that comes together, with the 3 truck Climax perhaps hitting the rails then as well. Stay tuned, he's got other big plans that will require some fund raising first. His dream is to restore the WM section between Durbin and Cheat Junction, which would allow a circle tour!

Meanwhile, anyone that can should come to Cass and ride the regular trains, as well as the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley and Durbin Rocket trains. Fall is a really good time to be up on the mountain. You don't have to be on a photo charter to get some good photos at Cass.
