Interesting that you mention timber as there is mention of a sawmill site that was located at about milepost 19 before the arrival of the railroad.Russell Wahmann's book states that fuel for the first Jerome smelter was shipped by wagon from this point. Logs were slid down a chute from Woodchute Mountain to the sawmill. Some were cut up into mine timbers and the rest used for fuel for the smelter. It continued to be a source for mine timbers after the arrival of the railroad.
