One fall we had a bunch of snow, in fact we only ran to Cumbres from Chama for a few days. Finally the weather cleared and we went back to a somewhat normal operation. Marty Fischer and I were headed east, down the hill toward Los Pinos near MP 326. There was about 6" of snow over the rails. I didn't have a plow on the engine, but the flanger was working and kicking a nice little rooster tail off to the side. Coming up to a cattle guard, I raised the flanger and saw 4 cows come out from behind a bush and cross in front of us just as we came to the fenceline and cattle guard. I called out to Marty "did they get across?" She said "yes, all three of them..." I lowered the flanger again and started kicking snow. Then two things happened at about the same time:
My brain kicked in - "uhhh, I swore I saw
FOUR go in front of us." Then some big clumps of snow started kicking out from around the pilot.
Then there was the day I scooped up a dog east of Alamosa and gave him a 30mph ride for a mile or two.....
At this point it became an "OH SH#T" moment. We were on a bit of a fill. I reached over to plug the air when out came this full grown steer, on it's back, spinning around, down the side of the fill with the most amazed look on it's face....
