Jeff, most passenger equipment in that era were equipped with Millers .... actually, the sold the whole platform including the automatic coupler. It was much safer than what had been used normally. The cost was pretty high, so many outfits paid the royalties to Miller and fabricated their own in their shops.
Something to watch for later on, though, is that after converting to Janney knuckle couplers, the lever often stayed on the platform .... sometimes used as an uncoupling lever.
