Chris, as I was reading Dan's post, I too was thinking of the Uintah bricks. It has been remarked that mail contracts were the only things that added enough profit to keep some passenger runs going such as The Silverton prior to tourism. I wonder what the history of this looks like in regard to the Post Office upping the payment to the rr's. Mr. Pengra or those that soon followed him must have had some success?
