I am posting the reports for two days as I plan to be out of town tomorrow. On the 17th, we see the daily pass. train delayed 12 min. due to "No Steam". Between Baker and Salisbury which is about 9 1/2 miles, the steepest grade is about .7% and most of the route is less than .5%. The fireman was either as green as his wood, or his fuel was really wet junk. On the 19th we see engine 50 in service (work train service) for the first time beyond it's short test run a few days ago. Perhaps a work train was thought to be the safest way to break the engine in as the crew could take their time and not beat it too hard to keep a schedule.
