Industrial street trackage is fascinating. When I hired out with SP in 1959 there was still a fair amount of this kind of street running in San Francisco, but the jobs when high on the seniority list so I never worked the street trackage, even off the extra board. But there were occasional visits to explore some of the alleys on foot. And there is a ng. connection here, because in SF some of the street trackage was ng. (car floats from the North Pacific Coast and possibly the South Pacific Coast) and I even found some three rail laid in the cobble stones.
In 1962 while visiting NYC, I sought out the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal, one of several float based switching lines like the Jay Street Connecting. But the BEDT was better known because it was still using steam! Unfortunately my brief visit was only to the area around the engine house and not the street running.
A few BEDT pix
Thanks for some fascinating pix.
