The tracks through DUMBO are a treasure. It didn't hurt that Bob Diamond (of Atlantic Avenue Tunnel/trolleys-behind-the-Red Hook Fairway fame) cleared the flangeways down Plymouth Street of asphalt patch jobs several years ago for jaunts with his restored Oslo streetcar, which he basically plugged into a giant extension cord.
The city raised hell about two years ago by starting to replace some of the historic Belgian blocks with modern impostors which were laughable at best, veiled under the guise of making crosswalks more "bike friendly" and ADA compliant. Thankfully, pressures from neighborhood interests intervened and I believe they've settled on a compromise that isn't mutually exclusive. Besides, bikers have bigger problems in DUMBO (like getting "dockblocked" on a weekday morning attempting to return your CitiBike within its allotted time window while late for work).
