The diesel is setup the same way the C-48's were with the same air actuators. If you look at the setup, the common rail is on the Engineer's side so that if a brakeman is on a standard or narrow gauge car, the Engineer can still see them. If you look at photos of switching Alamosa, the switchers almost always operated from the west headed east.

Now and then a car was behind them, so it had fixed couplers on that end.
