The documentation we have collected so far indicates the car was built in 1899 as 4432 and it was rebult in 1914 as an outfit box. It was numbered 04432 from 1914 on.
The photo from the early 1970's is very helpful. The car interior is in a very similar configuration today to the photo Jerry posted.
The roof construction today is made up of a set of longitudinal boards set over the carlines, these may be original; a layer of roofing felt; a thin set of transverse wood spacer strips, to allow drainage; modern 2 by 4 lumber lengthwise along the roof, on about 16 inch centers; 3/4 inch plywood screwed down over the 2 by 4s with rolled ashphalt roofing over the plywood.
