The morning train out of Durango has a 3000-series boxcar on the front. About half of it is fire-fighting and spare equipment, the rest of the space is for camping gear. I've taken it to Elk Park and then hiked east to the continental divide. Pretty amazing terrain and some of the furthest you can get away from roads in the continental US.

It looks like they charge by the pound now:
