That's a real good question. I'm thinking the trains were short enough they left the entire train at Carbon Jct. Notice in your shot, there are no revenue cars here. Just MOW cars, dump gons full of ashes, the weedburner on a flat, etc. There looks like there might be a car or two of coal, but that might be slag from up in Silverton.

The only way to get to the track going north is across the turntable. I really doubt they built any extra track for crossovers, etc.

I'd like to see a pic of the NPS special in November getting out of Durango. All the passenger equipment had to go out over the turntable to head east.
