Grant- You could spend an entire summer trying to track down all of the abandoned car bodies in Colorado. I could spend an entire day listing off various sites and conditions. Here's a short list: In Alamosa: A Rio Grande short reefer just north of the highway to La Veta. This is on the east side of town. The button herald was visible in 1997.
On a county road west of Alamosa is a farmer who has about 8 carbodies around his house. Most are outfitcars with original paint as of 1996. This road intersects the highway to Antonito about 2 miles south of Alamosa.
Alamosa river canyon: At a boy scout ranch are the remains of a narrow gauge Pullman car and a diner. As of 1996 they were still in restorable condition. There's also a Rio Grande wood standard gauge caboose along the canyon that is used as a summer cabin.
hope this helps, Dave Peterson
